The Barnett Shale Water Conservation and Management Committee seeks to develop best management practices (BMPs) for the Barnett Shale development in the Fort Worth Basin to ensure that water is managed in an efficient and responsible manner.
Purpose
The Committee serves to:
- Define best methods and technologies currently used for water management in drilling, completion and production operations
- Promote a balanced approach for:
- Efficient and responsible water management
- Conservation and Water Reuse
- Environmental Protection / Safety
- Outreach and Education
During the course of its activities, the Committee seeks to develop BMPs for water used during drilling, completion, and production operations for the Barnett Shale wells in the Fort Worth Basin. The Committee recognizes that efficient and responsible management of water is vital to the continued success of the Barnett Shale development. The Committee believes that the BMPs include conservation, environmental protection, and safety operations. The group seeks to share information among members about existing best practices and to evaluate opportunities to significantly improve the effective conservation of water resources.
On-going Activities
- Determining current and future water demands
- Estimating current and future “waste” water generation
- Defining water quality specifications for drilling and fracturing jobs
- Identifying technologies to provide effective solutions for water management
- Determining the feasibility of technical solutions to improve water conservation
- Conducting proactive “Best Management Practices” information transfer for industry
- Promoting information dissemination to Stakeholders
- Engaging in effective responses to inquiries and concerns about water management
